Task 7: Editing (Rough Cut)

This is a rough cut of the music video. There are still alot of improvements we need to do, such as making the transitions on beat and also making the lip sync in time. We gathered alot of footage, which is sometimes not such a good thing because it gives us too much to work with and makes the editing process sometimes messy.

TASK 5: Pre-production: Team Meetings

Today, we organised our shots and improved our storyboards.
We feel more confidently about it all and now we are just organising times and dates for the shootings. We had to make improvements such as making additional storyboards for specific scenes because the scenes we had storyboarded were too broad. Abbey went and made these improvements and we she had done it, it made it more clearer for us.

TASK 5: Pre production-Risk Assessment

For the majority of the locations we have picked, there arent many risks whilst filming which is a great thing to make sure of so when we do film, we can just straight into filming!

TASK 5: Pre production-Team meeting

Today we checklisted everything and have noted down the final things we need to do for the preparatory task. These things are

  • Risk Assesments
  • Talent Release
  • Call sheets
  • Profiles of actors

TASK 5: Pre-production: Reeces

All these locations may have the same problem which is the weather. If the weather is windy and raining this could be a problem as the actors hair and make up could mess up. We can avoid this if we chose a day that doesnt have bad weather.

TASK 5: Pre-production: Location Release Form

TASK 5: Pre-production: Production team roles

Production team roles.
Together I and Abbey will be working closely together. We will both be using the camera and setting up the lighting. Abbeys main job is to make sure all actors are at the scene when they are needed.

I am going to do the make up for the actors to make sure there make up doesn’t look bad on camera and is all nicely prepared for the video. Abbey will collect all the clothing that the actors will be wearing and my job is to make sure that it all fits etc.
We are going to take turns on who directs who because we are a small group the directing of the whole video will not be as stressful.

I done the storyboards, copyright clearance. Abbey done the reeces, location release costumes and props. Together we done the rest. So we shared out all of the jobs to do for the pre-production and done what was needed.

TASK 5: Pre-production: StoryBoard+ additional

These are sketches off an outline of the music video. They show what is happening in each scene. It shows when the scenery is going to be shown and when the dancers will be shown. I aim to follow as closely as I can.
For example, In scene 2, there are 4/5 specific beats that I aim to put different shots of scenery in them. I have put this on the storyboard so I don't forget.

TASK 5: Pre-production: Lyrics- Annotated

These papers are the lyrics that are annotated. This really helped us shape our storyboards.

TASK 5: Pre-production: Copyright Clearence

Ideas

Today, i worked on the storyboard. This was to give an outline of what our music video will look like. Personally, this exercise really helped me with the whole idea of the music video as you get to explore it in a more deeper way.

Task 4: Treatment Feedback

From the feedback we got from the audience was very helpful. We got told that we had to be conscious of the lighting as we are planning to shot scenes at night time. The reason into why we are shooting at night time is because the colours at night time suit the song and the colour scheme we are going for. We got told that using too many people could be a problem but we were aware of this. We arent having all the actors on the scene at once, we are planning to have them different days.  From the feedback we got, we had to think about whether shooting at night time was a good thing. Abbey had previously in AS used the same location at night time for photos and the lighting was fine, so we feel confident about shooting at nighttime. Our choice of target audience was a little to broad but still do feel the same for it. Possibly making the target audience a little more specific to 13-25. This is because some afrobeats songs are introduced to children from young so putting a specific age wouldn't be as easy.

Treatment Ideas 3

Today, we focused on our pitch and what inspired us and also spoke about the locations that we will be using.
'There was a load of music videos that inspired us, one being ‘For Life-Runtown’.
The reason for this was because the music video to this song was exactly how we wanted ours to be in terms of use of camera, mise-en-scene and editing. For example, the camera uses a range of angles and shots. There are mid shots, long shots and extreme close ups. In terms of mise-en-scene, the main artist is the one and only person that wears sunglasses, this signifies he is different to the rest and we found this really important to point out for our own music video. For locations we decided to chose different areas in a house, for the narrative of the music video, isle of dogs at night time, as the lights at night look pretty and the reflection in the river from the lights look really effective, a street at night time with nice lit lights. For the dancers, we were thinking to go to central london bridges and find one that lights up nicely. In terms of editing, we loved how there was fast cutting rates and slow motion and also the edited scenes of just pictures, we found that a really unique way to tell a story of a song.
Another song that inspired us was ‘Fear no one- Kojo Funds’.
The reason for this was because of the choice of colours and editing. This was a real eye-catcher for us as it related to us alot. We liked how the cutting rate was really fast cutting rate.'

1. Film studio

2.Photogrpahy studio (pending)
3. Mac (that we will be using)

We spoke about what we wanted out video to look like and we contacted the artists to confirm things such as locations and timings.

Treatment Ideas

In today's lesson, i concentrated on my ideas and wrote a few down. This was my treatment:

Treatment:
For my music video, I have a number of ideas for the chosen song ‘Rock your body- Burna Boy’. The song is about love but more about a sexual love rather than a sentimental love. I plan to have a performance based/ narrative music video as it goes well with the song.
I have thought about the colours within the song. Which are going to be blue, green red and black. The reason for these colours are because the song is quite soft and these colours are soft as well and mix really well. I have visions of the music video having various locations such as a house, O2 cable cars bridge, isle of dogs and central London. The video will be shot at night time as it goes more with the colour theme that is going on. The lyrical content is romantic and I think that these locations and the time of day will go together well.
The music video will consist of a number of 3 dancers potentially one girl and two boys. A couple that will be used in the narrative part of the video. I want the music video to consist of slow motions scenes of a musical instrument being played in the rain or with water on it. This effect has been done before and looked extremely effective and as afro beats heavily use drums it would make sense to do a clip of drums being used.
The performance will be filmed also at night and will consist of afro beat dancing that goes well with the beat. The choreography of this  will be made by one of the dancers themselves.

One music video that really inspired me was ‘For Life- Runtown’ because the music video is relatable to my ideas. I like how it has a mix of narrative and performance based.

Lip Sync task

Preparatory Task: Case studies Task (UPDATED)

Practise Lip Synch Video

In the planning of this as a group we all had different ideas which made it difficult to think of one idea that we would all like to work on. Eventually we just went with one song called 'trust and believe' by Keyshia Cole. I was filming the shots and I was focusing on getting a range of shots taking into account that we had only 20 mins to do this. I focused on wide shot, long shot, close ups etc. The camera was handheld so I had to make sure I wasn't shaking the camera. In the editing process, we wanted a fast cutting rate at the beginning as the song had a load of beats, so we thought of filling these spaces with footage. in time with the beat. In terms of mise-en-scene one weakness was finding nice locations that did not wash out the actress. One strength was that once we had found a location, the locations had nice simple backgrounds to make the video look good. Our initial song was 'excuse me miss' by Chris Brown. considering that the actress was a girl we noticed that the lyrics didnt suit the actress so we changed the song. Overall, I enjoyed working on this mini project.

Camera Induction Practise

Yo
I don't know your name but excuse me miss
I saw you from across the room
And I got to admit that you got my attention
You're making me want to say yo
I know you're trying to leave but excuse me miss
I saved the last dance for you
How I love to keep you here with me oh baby

Ariana Grande ft Iggy-Problem Music Video Analysis

This music video is themed about love and female empowerment. It talks about her moving away from a bad relationship.
It is a performance based video made in the studio. It has no narrative.
The theme is massively 60's the motif for this is the hair. the costume and special effects (sfx).
Representation of the two artist: Ariana- cute, innocent but sexulised & Iggy- classy but also sexulised.
2 shot of the two denotes the female empowerment and the men are chasing the women. The is a fast cutting rate, also big close ups of Ariana whispering in the mans ear.
Target audience- young girls.
